Talking M calipers

Hi all,

I'm still looking into a good, easy and rel cheap front brake upgrade for my 911 powered 912. Can I simply use M calipers ie. can I keep the original legs also is there much extra performance in doing this ?

Thanks in advance
Regards

Alan

M calipers won't fit on the stock strut; you'll need to change to 911SC suspension. I went through this whole dilemma last year. I ended up changing to a 19mm master cylinder, Metal Master brake pads, braided lines, and Ate Blue fluid. Definite improvement, no major work, and would survive autocross use, maybe even a track day or two. I have also heard good things about the Porterfield R4S pads, I plan to use these next.

Almost any caliper change will require you to use a different strut. Aluminum calipers require the use of a 911S strut. If you are lucky to find a set, check the pistons. I was given a FREE set of 911S Koni struts with the aluminum calipers, and the pistons are toast. Stainless replacements are $300.

The stock iron calipers work great for the 912 anyways. I've seen them used on full race 912s with no problems at all.

Hi Alan,

Roland suggested the M calipers/rotors and he seems to know what he's talking about.
I used SC calipers because I was racing and needed the most I could get for my money.
I made my own brackets and did all the work myself.
The backets can be made on a vertical mill pretty easily. I am not sure if I still have the drawings I made for the adapters. I'll dig around and see if I can find them.
If enough people were interested I could make up a few sets for the crazy people in the group. Later, JMB

Hello

First off all make the best with what you have. A new 19 mm MBC with new hoses and better pads will improve old systems to there new car glory.

Pre 68 cars have boltet on caliper mounts and so the change to other pattern is easy.

It is nice to have the original forged Porsche parts but not a musst. Also some had a dual pattern adaptor. ( Only seen once on a 66 )

Grüsse
