Ticking/tapping noise

I have an awful ticking (not a knocking noise)coming from the
engine of my '66 912. It has had the big bore kit upgrade and sat not running for a few years. I just bough it a few months ago and am in the process of restoring it. I would like to know what could be causing the noise? I think it may be either bad lifters or a flat spot in the cam? Please advise...this is really starting to drive me crazy!!!

First thing to do if the car has sat for a while is to do a valve adjust, tune-up, and change the oil/filter. Sounds like your 912 needs a carefully done valve adjustment.

Had a similar problem and it was a lifter. I tryed everything and nothing worked. So I lived with it for 6 months and the lifter finally wore in.
