Fuel Pump died...AGAIN!!!

My dad's taking care of my 912 while I'm in Minnesota and he called me up a few days back and said he can't get the car started. Hmmmm, he's owned and owns several Porsches including 2 356es so what can be the problem. The fuel pump don't pump fuel! Yes the recently rebuilt fuel pump don't pump fuel. Well, thats odd, I rebuilt it so it has to work, right??? But no says the Porsche gods, they say my 912 deserves something better (especially for auto xing) a brand new electric fuel pump with a built in adjustable regulator! Realizing that I can't win any battle with the Porsche gods I agreed and bought one for $45 from JC Whitney, what a deal. Well anyway, turns out that the shaft has seen too many miles, 270,000, and the spring is worn out from springing in and out, in and out. So I'm sending the electric to my dad and hoping when I get back to sunny California my car will run. But when you think about it, this ain't so bad after all. Free labor, I hope, and a car that will start any time any where with no pumping!!! Not bad. Now, to prevent a total waist of your time with me rambling about my car when I'm not even home, and haven't seen it for almost 3 months, I have a question. Does anyone know if there are block off plates for the mechanical fuel pump opening? If so, where can I get one. Otherwise I'll have to make my own. I figure why have the non working mechancal when I have an electric? All it does is put more strain on the engine, more friction and less horesepower! Pretty smart, huh? Any comments are as always greatly appriciated. Well, happy 912ing and..... ONLY 11 MORE DAYS TIL I'M REUNITED WITH MY 912!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------ Joshua Harrison 1968 912 Coupe www.geocities.com/jkh912 11 days till I'm reunited with my 912!!!!!!!!

I saw a 356 Carrera at the Monterey Historics last month with a block off plate as the owner was using a Bendix electric fuel pump. I believe he had a machine shop make this for him. Duke-69 912

A block off plate is real easy to make. Just cut and drill some 3/16 aluminum using the gasket as a template. You can purchase one from 356 Enterprises (810) 575-9544. Good source for all kinds of performance stuff for our little 4 bangers. After you remove the pump check the up and down play in the distributor shaft and adjust it if it moves too much.

Hey Josh, I'm pretty sure that CB Performance has them as well. They also sell the electric fuel pumps and pressure regulators. ------------------ Adam White 68 912 Coupe
