Ok guys, heres your chance to play an influence on the future of my Porsche ownership experience. I have at the moment 2 options. 1. Buy a near perfect 86 844 NA with an automatic transmission. OR 2. Buy a 66 912 with a straight chassis but in need of paint (not going to happen) and interior (here we go again). BUT it has a SWEET engine. Not as performy as mine but stock and very smooth. One side of my mind is saying, go for the newer car, all electronic, sunroof, less water leaks, easier to start, more refined, and looks great, handles great, and is super clean, and a car Iwanted one since I was 13. OR go with a 912 which needs work, a car I know front to back, left to right, a nimble keeping you on your feet type car, but very little refinements. Needs work. Missing inside door panel, needs a regulator and other thing (I have). Paints faded. No rust. Steel wheels.Owners buying a 944.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Both are same price. What do you think??? The 912 was going to actually be my autocrossing challenger (mine vs this one. You know who would have won ) Oh and the 944 is guards red and the 912 is green. ------------------ Joshua Harrison Porsche owner at heart |

NO AUTOMATICS!
But if you could find a 5-speed 944 for the same price, go for it. Efrain 68 912 |

Because of the cost of labor you may want to stick with the car you know. Porsche means maintainance! Plus Autocrossing in an automatic is that COOL? NOT!!! Good luck!

Josh: No question - you've got to go with the 912. You already know these cars & what they can do. Also, they're holding their value and you'll be able to tinker around with them (can't do that with a SMOG car here in CA.)

Well well well, the 944 turned out to be crap. She lied about everything on the phone. The car bellowed out smoke, was loud, had been broken into, had dents and chips in the paint, had torn seats, cracked dash, cracked center council, power steering didn't work, lights didn't work, sun visors broke, motor mounts bad, ac didn't work, flex plate completely gone, car wasn't clean, every plastic part on the car was broken, leaked oil, shaked at speed, and the list goes on and on and on. I might take a look at the 912 this weekend and make a decision. Lots of unknowns. Later.

Josh, stick with the 912's. You know them, you have a parts car and they won't depreciate over time.

Josh,
Keep looking. I believe you will find a better deal on a 912. I bought my 912E in 1999. It had a recent engine rebuild (20,000 miles) decent interior and exterior (No dents no rust). After negotiation I purchased it for $4400. Which was a lot less than I anticipated. The owner said he had too many cars (1970 911, 1986 928S, 1979 Ferrari 308, plus the 912E). At any rate my search took about 4 months. Look in www.recycler.com (that where I found my car). Another good thing to keep in mind is because the age of these cars (there is no such thing as an old Porsche only new owners) it is usually an all cash deal. This means you are in a better negotiating position than the seller. John |

Actually, the car has been sold, and has been parted out completely. The engine is going into a 55 Continental Coupe vintage racer.
