The horror, the horror...

It's my greatest nightmare. I hope whoever was piloting walked away. Better to wad a Porsche tha one's self. After all, there are more 912s out there, and you've got a a good parts car.

Looks like this one just raised the value of our cars...

First off, I'm ok. I walked off on my own with no scratches, cuts, or bruises, and in full consciousness. The car is totaled, I only carried liability so there is no insurance money.

Now for the story. I was travaling down Hwy 58 from San Luis Obispo to Bakersfield CA on Friday, October 5 at 4pm. I was on a straight stretch of highway in California Valley with perfect vision of the highway for over a mile. I had no distractions, wasn't listening to the radio, talking on the phone, ect. The highway was narrow with no shoulder. I was passing a semi and was going about 65 mph when I reached the front of the truck. At that instant there was a motercycle coming the opposite direction and nether he or I saw each other. He maintained his path and I had only one choice, to go on the shoulder. Unfortunately the shoulder was very soft, softer than I envisioned, and lost control of the car immediately. After that I don't remember what happened. However, after looking at the tracks and skid marks Monday I have determined, with the help of others, what happened. As I drove onto the shoulder I lost control and headed farther off the road than intended. I hit the lipp of dirt, approxamately 10 feet off the road. When I did this, it sent the car back across the road, backwards. During this time I skidded infront of the semi which missed me by about 50 feet, which we determined by the skid marks. Now I entered the other shoulder, which was just as soft. I hit the lip which sent me airborne. Then, I hit a 4x4 post which catipulted me in the air, through a barbed wire fence. I flipped over end over end and landed on my roof. Then, I fipped over sideways and landed on the right front bumper which then flipped me over again, this time crashing through another barbed wire fence, perpendicular to the first fence. I finally came to a rest on the other side of the fence, with one of the posts under my car. Then I started to remeber things. I looked, unbuckeled my lap belt, and opened the door, which failed to close afterwards. At this time the truck driver called 911 and left imemediately. The motercycle never stopped. After the incident I gathered items and parts from the car within a 50 foot radius of the car. I did not get a citation and I paid the farmer for the damages, resulting in no insurance claim.

The irony of this story. I just got a cell phone, which saved my butt afterwards, the week before. I got AAA this summer, which towed my car. And the 912 was running its very best since I've owned it. But, now its gone. The car was declared "junked" at the DMV today. Right now I'm looking for a 924/944 as I can't aford a 912. But I will still be at this board and will still give help and advice. And feel free to email me. But, I will tell you guys one thing for sure, I will have another guards red 1968 Porsche 912 coupe someday, with the California license plate number 2GST523, so keep your eyes open.

If any of you are interested in pictures of the car and the accident site, email me and I'll get them to you.

Love you guys!

Josh,
Thank God that you walked out alive.
A lot can be said for the safety of these cars. Unbeleivable, you flipped end over end and sideways and walked away!
I hope that you find another Red 912 soon!
All the best!

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn.....

First off, glad to hear you're OK!

Guess there's not much left of the car to salvage-too bad. If you decide to part out what IS left, though...let us know.

My advice on buying a replacement..find another 912. Gotta get right back on the horse....

I wish I could choke up the money for a 912 but I'm broke. Plus, I've put thousands into my 912 and I'm not financially ready to do that again. As far as parting out, yes it is being parted out. The fresh air blower, brakes, stearing wheel, stereo, seats, engine, and tranny are already taken. All body panels are shot. Both right side turn signals might be ok, but I haven't checked. All guages apear to be ok (gas, temp w/degrees, tach, and speedo, clock doesn't work but is fixable). 3 wheels, not factory, and a Fuch spare are ok. The fuch is in rough shape though. Rain guard for the engine is for sale. Handles, crest, shifter, glove box, all good. Gas tank, window regulators, master cylinder (3 years old). Going to check cv joints. Pedal cluster, needs brake bushings installed (comes with bushings). Anything else, email me. All parts sold will be is very good to excellent condition. I would keep everything but I need the money.

Also for sale. BRAND NEW, NEVER USED windshield and rear window seals. $100 for both w/shipping included.

Josh: Glad to hear you walked away from it. I've got a feeling you'll be back in soon - there are lots of projects coming out of the woodwork as the economy goes south. Good luck.

Josh,

Glad you're okay.I can't believe you walked away from that. Says a lot for the integrity of the design. Or...you were just really fricken' lucky.

What heartbreaking pictures.
