Won't Start!
I have never had this problem before. Plenty of battery, but when I turn the key...nothing. Different battery...nothing. Lights work (dim), checked terminals. Everything looks good. I checked the ground strap from trans. Looks OK. Could this be the starter? How can I tell? Any suggestions?

I had the sme problem with my 69 - the ignition switch bakelite backing had come loose, but only slighty, which made the contact intermittent and when it didn't work, lots of battery but nothing going.

Check the sylinoid. Make sure everythings wired good, give it a few taps and try again. Hopefully it works. My question is, why would the lights be dim? Sure sounds like a short. Do they flicker?

I had this same problem when my car was 5yrs. old. My mechanic came out to my house on his way home from work & diagnosed the problem as being a short in the "yellow" wire on the left side of the engine compartment which is used to start the engine from the engine compartment. He replaced this & that took care of it. You might check this out. Duke, 69 912.

hi, I had this problem driving my newly purchased 66 car from LA to NY. Turned out to be a bum starter/solenoid (never found out which). there are several tests you can do to pinpoint the problem. One could be the ignition switch (according to that orange 912 manual - can't recall what the actual title is - but I found it very helpful). Anyway, I replaced the starter and now all is working fine.
