912E Hot Start Problem
I've just bought a 912E. When the car is cold, it starts fine
and runs fine until I shut it off. If I try to restart it right away, the starter just spins the engine and nothing happens. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanx, Pete  |
does it start after it cools off some ???....My 914 had similar symptoms that was corrected with an oil change and a valve adjustment.....

912E hot start issue
Pete,
E-mail me direct and I will send you the 912E troubleshooting guide. I have spent the last 3 weeks working on a 912E and have learned tons of stuff about them. So, I may be able to help you out. |
I find that once my 912 engine warms up, to start if I need to hold the gas pedal down while it cranks. Several people have told me that this is the normal warm starting procedure for a 912. It works great and the car starts in just a few spins of the starter. I have tried other procedures but just holding the gas down while cranking works

My 912E had similar problem due to overheating of battery wires. There are kits to correct this.

Does it have the L-Jetronic injection? Or carbs?
I would start from injection. Head temp sensor? Loose/cut wire somewhere? Grounds ? Cold start valve ( or what ever tha right name is)? And so on... Mine was playing earlier , it would stop.Just like that. When slowing down.If I kept the revs up , it occationally sputtered.... and if it did stop it took always about a minute of cranking to get it going again. Got the injection checked , and ignition. No visible faults. Then one day it stopped , I grabbed the wirebundle , shaked it , and tied it with cableties. No problems ever since.... So most likely I do have a loose wire/connection somewhere in my enginebay.I just have to find it. I also got this L-Jetronic information/troubleshooting guide that I got from another 912E owner. It has some good advice.I still might have it somewhere in my PC.If you need it. Erkki |
