Beauty Turns Beast @ 5000RPM
Oh, am I back on the road ..... one year and a complete engine rebuild later...... I now know the true nature of the lil' beast. The bratty b.. ch becomes a howling warrior princess when you let her go to the redline. I've owned this '67 for over three years and always suspected it was designed to be run as a racer, but until the rebuild it was a dud. Right now, and I know cars like the 912 change like the New England weather, it is running factory new perfect. It's now at 1700cc's with a .050 dist and webers.
Thanks to the rebuilder Jeff at Labelle and Leitner in Greenfield Ma. A real mechanic. Jim in Ma.

There are various schools of thought on break-in. For the first 400 miles I was careful to drive under 2800 rpm with a cold or cool motor, varied the speed, and kept it under 4000 rpm. I then let the rebuilder change the oil and reset the valves.
Now if I had the $$ for a paint job ......
