66 912 mystery wires help please

I found a black wire located in the engine compartment. It comes
out of a big harness located in the middle of the engine compartment directly behind the rear seats, at the bottom of the sound pad.( the engine is not in the vehicle.) It is a single spade connection.

The other wires are two brown wires both connected by an
o-ring connector located in the drivers side of the engine
compartment. They come out of a branch where there also
is a light wire( white ? faded.) This branch is near where the
volt regulator would be.

Thanks in advance

Smile 912 Wiring Diagram

Dave Hillman has a 912 wiring diagram on his web site. Maybe it will answer your questions.

Good Luck.

Thanks,

I think that it might be the main lead from the voltage regulator to the starter solonoid, so it should be connected to the voltage regulator (right next to where the brown ground wires attach)

could it be the wire that goes to your license plate light. See if it goes hot when you turn on the key or when you turn on the lights
