Over milled head delima
I am nearing a point where I can start up my 912 engine for the first time since I purchased it as a long block. I adjusted valves for cyl. #1, #2, but on #3 and #4 it looks like that head was milled down so far that I can't get get any sized blade in there to adjust the valve. A simple solution might be to just buy a new (reconditioned head). What else should I try?

There are a lot of things that can cause the valves to run out of adjustment, assuming the heads are the same cc, and cylinders are all the same, could be valve seats, cut too deep, if they were the stems should have been ground to match. Your adjusters should be about centered since they have oil holes in them, You can get a set of 4130 pushrods and cut them to fit also. Oh one other thing, make sure your currnet pushrods are not hanging on the edge of the lifters, that will make it impossible to adjust the valves.

Ah, Hah!!!!!!! I found one problem. The adjusting screw won't screw in out all the way to let me get a gap in there. I took it apart and can see that the screw is stripped about half way along the threads. What is that part called? Is there a part number out there?

And just for the heck of it, you should never have higher CR on one side of the engine.
If one head has to be flycut, you need to shim the base of the cylinders on that side to match the other heads CC's. Seriously, But great deal on thevalve adjust screws. Bob O
