porscharu fans #8...the first ride

I couldn't help it...had to go....

first off...I'm gonna switch back to open headers...I get it out of the garage and I can't hear it...I thought it had stalled, but no indicator lights. Oil pressure light hooked right to the factory subaru switch, and works great just like that.

now the part we've all been waiting for...

I taxi down the driveway into my cul de sac and just go in circles for a minute. I shake it back and forth, everything seems okay...I decide that a trip to the corner was in order. I pull it straight, realizing how much a windshield really helps you see (as the car is out there without anything attached in the way of doors windows or fenders...) and gas it lightly, realizing the throttle is still...well...rigged. BRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! whee!!!! this thing is GREAT!!!! the tools on the floorboards go skittering backwards, grass and rocks are blowing through the big hole that was my winshield...I don't care!!! I get close to the corner, and hit the brakes and push in the clutch...dead silence...but no trouble lights...hmmmm.

WAIT...it IS still on...WOW....this car is QUIET!!! and the supertrapps...wow they sound good.

I can't believe I'm this close to finishing...

altporsche, which engine is that in there? I had a EJ25 bolted in mine, but I'm considering otherwise. The damn project is dragging too much. Where are you? Wanna finish mine for me?

I'm in atlanta. EJ18 in mine...the 25 should be easy...you got the ECU?

If you're paying, I can finish it.

Yeah, I need someone to push and help me to get the thing started. I have just about everything to get it running. Full wiring harness, including front dash harness complete from ECU to engine.

I need serious help.

as long as you're not modifying it, get the proper year's wiring book, find your positives, find your grounds, plug everything in a voom...it's not too difficult.

I'm from Erie, PA and went to school in PGH.

You ever think about making it a direct drive fan? At speed, the electric fans may not be adequate to cool the engine.

Mr Kennedy advised that I convert it to a direct drive fan by mounting a pillowblock bearing and fan. He said that as the speed increases, the engine will get considerably hot, so you need a fan to increase in speed to push enough air through the radiator.

The radiator in the back allows for an easy configuration. It eliminates plumbing issues that occur with the radiator mounted upfront. The only problem now is getting enough cool air to flow through the radiator.

BTW, which KEP adapter did you order? Clutch and flywheel?

yeah, but I'm also going to louver the rear panel to take advantage of the low pressure area behind the radiator...

I disagree with the fact that it needs a fan on all the time...a single pusher should be enough, there's room for a second fan if needed.

I've also got a 964 rear decklid...if it continues to get hot...just pop the wing and let it flow cool air in...just like that wing was meant to do.

KEP adapter was EJ block to 901 trans...you have to send them a 914 flywheel as a core. be sure to label everything you send them...they nearly lost mine.

Ha! I went to Behrend in 94, state college in 96 graduated in 99, then Duquesne for law school. Since I came back, I've been autocrossing my 912 with the NHSCC for the last three years or so. Great group of guys.

Basically, I'm waiting for the KEP kit to get here. I'd prefer to send the engine to you mounted to the transmission. There's a few items I'd like to address before sending it as well.

Update: I wanted to know what you used for the fuel pump and return line? I have a carburated model so I'll reroute two new fuel lines along the center channel. I have a Walbro in-tank pump along with an inline. Both new. Just let me know which one you'd prefer to work with and where you mounted it.

I prefer the walbro inline, I mounted mine next to the trans in back (in front of the axle flange)...as long as it stays down low, it has no trouble pulling the distance.
