Cool New 912 owner! need help!

Hi there,
proud owner of a 66 912, irish green. Coupe.
Can some of the wiser ones please advise me on a couple of things?
I need an engine and I'd like to change to 5 speed, how hard are these to find?

Can someone decode my VIN?
452414a
thanks

I have been looking, but everything seems like it lives on the west coast!

anyone out there have a spare engine they want to sell to me so I can get my 912 on the road?

It was basically a road going car that someone took the engine out of for their 912.....

thanks a ton.

I live in Falls church and I too have a Irish green 912. While I don't have any running motors I do have lots of motor parts from heads to cranks, rods carbs and the like. Lots of other parts as well.

5 speeds are not hard to find but if you have the early outer hubs you will need to convert or adapt the axles. For street driving the 4 is fine.

Lucky you! You live right next to a great ten turn race track, Summit Point. My 912 has spent many a day at that track p!ss!ng off early 911s.

Your going to have to change your screen name to reduce confusion if you want to buy any of my stuff.

I'm guessing this is the gem you got on ebay??? I saw the car in person, pretty solid ride. I've got a 66 912 as well...fun car. I'm rebuilding the engine this winter, you're welcome to hangout, etc.
I'd stick with the 4-speed if it's in good condition, otherwise you'll be running through gears too much, especially considering traffic in our area...I'd gladly trade my 5 for a 4 on a daily driver.
You may also want to look into getting a later engine, I'm tempted to find a nice 3.0 or 3.2 for mine..., but will stick to rebuilding for now...
Congrats, from what I saw you've got an amazing deal on the car....

I tried to edit my options, but it won't give me an option to change my screen name....any help?

Ok, so here is my list of bits I need, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

early style headlights (will trade my old ones)
early style marker and tail lamps.
Drivers door.

thanks a ton.

Yep, it is the one from ebay. Very solid, looking forward to getting a motor in her so I can get her on the road.

Funny this is the first time i have been to this forum in quite a while, and this is the first thread i look at. I live in woodbridge Va, pretty close to the rest of you all. Although i am at school right now in West Virginia, i can't wait to get home and keep plugging away at my 67 912 targa. Its been neglected and most would send it to the junker due the amount of rust, but i just can't seem to give it up. Nice to know there are other 912 owners in the area. ALso do any of you guys know of any one who has some rear quarters with good tailight housings in them? Sorry to hijack the thread.

Talking aha! pictures!

Well, here she is!
Gotta get rid of the "73" style bumpers overriders, lights and stop/turn lights....

perhaps I can sell them on the BBS to fund my early bumper/light and engine purchases...

Oh yeah, and I need to either fix or replace that nasty drivers door....
wouldn't hurt to replace the doglegs in the wings...
got under her on my lift and she is quite solid, some rust issues in the front suspension area, but they make repair sections.....
cheers
Kevin
