There should be a serial and type number on one of the through bolt bosses on the top of the case, near the distributor. On one boss should be 616/xx, where xx will be 36 for a '65-'68 engine, and 40 for a '69 engine. If this isn't there, it may be a 912E engine, which is really a VW Type 4. This will have a large cast fan housing mounted to the end of the engine (opposite the flywheel), with the fan attached directly to the end of the crankshaft. If complete, it should have Bosch L-Jet fuel injection on it.

All of the 616 engines will be 1.6L, where the 912E engine is 2.0L.

If you haven't made it there yet, go check out the 912 Registry website. There is alot of info there, especially for newcommers. By the way, welcome!

616/36 indicates a '65-'68 engine. The serial number indicates it was made in '67.

mic, I don't mean to be rude, but this question and your previous question have already been answered by the above posts. If you don't read them, pretty soon people are going to stop writing them. Much of this data is also available on the 912registry site, and on sites linked off that one.

Yes, 1600cc, about 90hp.
