Crankcase crack fixed

Some of you might remember that i cracked my case this summer just after completing a rebuild.

I was looking into having it welded but i wanted to do the job myself. I ended up brazing the crack and I think that i turned out pretty well. I used brazing rods from New Technology Products that were specially made for aluminium repair.

I know many of you advised me to have it welded but i think this worked out pretty well, i will let you know if it leaks but i seriously doubt that it will.

before brazing, the crack has been beveled on both edges and looks bigger than it really is.

I like a do-it-yourselfer! And that looks like the same engine stand I have! I'm glad someone tried that kit out....how was it, easy to use? Seems like it would be great for curbed wheels too- filling small nicks and such.

haha, thats no engine stand, its a table saw.
Yeah the kit was great, came with a bunch of brazing rods, a tinning brush, and a video (more of a promotion than a how to, you can watch it on their site actually). I just spent an hour or so learning how to use it on an old aluminium saturn cylinder head. I made different gouges and holes in the head and all where fixed perfectly with a little patience and a MAPP gas torch. Once the repair is made the HTS-2000 is certaintly harder than the aluminium and could not be knocked out with a hammer and chisel. So i am pretty confident that the repair on my case is as good as or better than welding. Small nicks and scratches would easily be fixed with this stuff because it wicks right into the crack and can be filed flush after cooling.
