912 failed MOT

Afternoon all

Just taken my car in for its MOT and it has failed on

(1) steering column top bearing excessively worn
(2) offside (carb) fuel system component leaking

I am based in the UK - are these big jobs to resolve and what sort of cost am I looking at (plus where is best for me to source the necessary part(s))?

I love driving the car but am mechanically naive!

Please advise.

Rick

You can buy a sleeve that simply inserts over the column to take out the play, leaking carb shouldn't pose any problem to a competent mechanic, although it may require a strip down and a gasket kit installed.

Also try http://www.ddk-online.com its UK based and has alot of 912 owners on there.

If I wasn't doing the work myself I'd expect a bill for around £150 + MOT for the work you're suggesting, obviously its a guess, but don't get ripped off.

Follow Niges advice and also might be worth investing some dosh in the carbs being rebuilt properly by Carb Exchange about £150 each to do well worth it...

Thanks guys, is having the work done today by a friend of a friend who specialises in Beetles and Karmann Ghias, fingers crossed should be not too much!
