factory 912 rally car ?
I just looked at a 66` 912 thats buried with 100+ lawnmovers surrounding it. The owner says its an original rally car with 150hp. I looked at the engine and it is a normal looking 912 engine but has a much larger crank pulley and the super rare sand cast solex carbs. The suspension is standard issue as is the brakes. Steel wheels . The speedo was different however. It was either 150mph or 180mph(forgot) .
I can buy the car for $2k but its in very sad shape. I know the carbs alone go for around $2500 so its a wash on that alone. Im just not convinced anything else on this heap is worth digging out. Anyone ever hear of such an animal ? Kurt Williams

Kurt:
If your investment is basically covered with the carbs and most likely a few other parts, I'd jump on it. There were several early 911S Rally optioned cars running SCCA CP in the late 60's. These cars had some very trick parts like lighter glass, undercoat delete and some very thin steel parts on the body. Whether or not this was a factory-equipped rally car will be hard to determine, but if it turned out to be something special, you'd definitely have something worth restoring and preserving. Does the car have undercoating/soundproofing? You mentioned a different gauge - VDO? Larger fuel tank? Good luck, Bill. |
