Oil for Knecht Mesh Filters Plus Q's
Hi everyone,
I just had the local Porsche man put a pair of split-shaft Solex's on my '67 912. The carbs have the Knecht wire mesh "filters." I would like to increase the minimal filtering properties of these filters by coating the metal with oil. I was told that Pennzoil makes a spray oil, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone out there running naked Knecht air filters? If so, do you treat the metal to increase the filtering factor? If so, what with? Also, does anyone have any experience with the nylon pre-filters of EMPI sandbuggy fame? How much sound suppression do these carb-bags offer? I had Weber 40s with K & Ns before; these Solex's are much better, IMO, but they are LOUDER. WHAT? It actually sounds pretty good now--Zoom-Zoom THIS!--but I will tire of it soon, I suspect. Thanks, EZMiles

the Knechts I had on mine had green foam that was oiled. I still have a tube of the stuff.
K&N makes spray oil that should work. sjd

Yes, I have seen the green foam pre-filters at VW sites on line. They are cheaper than the nylon "socks".
I might try the K&N oil since I have some around, but I would love to hear from others who have used the nylon socks or another oil with their Knechts. Thanks, EZ
