suspension rattles

I have had bilstien shocks mounted in my 68 912 to replace the old boges which are nla, by a reputable shop. They also replaced all the front and rear bushings. When I test drove the car I got loud rattle from the front (shocks I think) What should I/ they be looking for as problem areas.
Thanks Fran

Fran:
I've never had this problem, but maybe I can get the ball rolling. I'd first have the shop get that car up on a rack and physically double check every nut and bolt they had their hands on - especially the lower strut mounting bolts. (Even Formula 1 mechanics sometimes overlook something.) Have them "bounce" the car to see if the sound can be duplicated. If not, have them test drive the car until the sound presents itself. Then, have them verify that the proper inserts are, infact, used. There are a number of variations available and maybe something got mixed-up. Example:
http://www.replacementshocks.com/po~1968~912~Strut_Insert_qu.html
Then there's the off-chance that someone left a socket someplace away from the toolbox. Bottom line is that it's their responsibility to get it right, even if they have to tear it apart again. If they're truly reputable they'll do it gladly - if not, or if they want to put the job on the 'backburner' make them aware of serious liability issues if something did, infact, fail due to their negligence.
Hope this helps.
Bill.

It could be wrong shocks, shocks not tight, wrong bushing placement....I really don't think it's serious, that said make them fix it.

Bilsteins

Hi,

I have exactlly the same problem, rebuild complete suspension and installed P36 0111 M12 Bilsteins and have front suspension noise when over bumps (like the shock is hitting something). How you solve yours?

Thanks
David
