Adding Air and New Seats
I have a 1967 912 with a Type IV engine. Is there a reason air conditioning could not be added? Also, how difficult is it to replace the seats? I was hoping to add some more modern looking/feeling seats to the car (such as in the 911)? Thanks for all your patience and advice. I know you guys are the experts.

Is that you 912? Whatever it is, it looks great! Do you drive it often?

Most 911 seats swap right in, some use later 944 seats with rail adaptors, and you can also occasionally find a good seat of Recaro sport seats (NOT Porsche issue) in BMW 2002 or early 300 series bbs boards. Those are great seats, too, and there are plenty of them to go around.
I agree with Gregg on this one - air conditioning is probably best left to windows and speed. Mike (in Portland) |
I have a 2.7 type 4 engine with Air Conditioning and it works fine, I think when you try to run AC on a one hundred horsepower motor it is going to do a good job of taxing your engine. On the other hand I have heard that the manufactures of compressors are making them more efficient with less parasitic drag maybe you should check into all your options before going 60 and opening those windows

Just drink more beer. Oops, you can't do that anymore.

Funny it was offered by the dealer network in 1968 on both the 911 and 912, ( I know this as I bought my first 911 new, It had AIR CONDITIONING ) All the Ferrari road cars had air so did all of Mercedes SL's how stupid could it have been? If you can afford to check the box that say's Air Conditioning, well then why not?
