				New project?

			Hey guys, I got a lead on a 69 912 with a 2.2 liter '71 911 motor in it

. The car is in decent shape with a little rust in the trunk. The car runs and drives great, but could use a little work all around. It has a clean title, what do you think a ballpark value of this car would be?![]() Charles |

$3000 to $10,000 based on overall condition. Any photos of the rust? Replaced rear torsion bars to hold up that heavy 911 engine? Condition of motor? What part of the world are you in? Etc, etc.

			So Hey Charles,

Quick question, why do some on these boards finish each of their posts with what they own? I REALLY like the guys that post what they used to own and the complete list of current cars. Does this mean the one car I have makes me less experienced etc, etc? I don't know about the rest but if a former 912 had a descent 911 engine in it, I wouldn't throw it out of the garage;-) Gregg 69 912 coupe 66 912 sunroof (sold) 66 912 sunroof (sold) 95 Ford Ranger 99 Schwinn 10 speed 07 Nikes |

and Charles, post what you want please........ My point was a 912 with a 911 engine is not a 911, in my opinion it's a bastard 912. 911s have different brakes and suspension issues among other things......no need to be so sensitive ![]() Chas. 356 912 911 |

Chas, I'm not pissy, I just don't understand the need to TELL people what I own. I tell you one thing, If I, like you had a 356, 912 and a 911. I seriously wouldn't be on BBS's all the live long day;-)

Since the other BBS has a renegade 912 section with heck even a Subaru engine and lots of type fours, are these not 912's either? The better S brakes didn't start until the 68 model was introduced, and that was only in the S. The 69 911T had the same old brakes as the 912's of the same period. And the earlier 911's and 912's where pretty close except the thicker torsion bars and some had the rear sway bar mounted. It sure beats making a bastard SWB clone RSR, wouldn't you agree? Gregg |

You use the terms pissy and relax, Wow! I'm just sitting here reading these great posts kinda minding my own business and get hit with this stuff, cuz I don't have a 356 or sweet 911 to jump into right about now to run up to the Gas & Sip for some smokes or whatever one with a 356 or 911 would run to the store for. Any who.... I think Chas when you dropped the Bastard bomb and back it with "well it's just my opinion" "Chas, 356, 912, 911" speaks volumes to me. And yes, I'm here on the board way to much, wish I had a 356 or 911 or outlaw to get out of the house in. I'd take my 912 but I'm still rebuilding the carbs after the track fire on Wednesday. I think Chas, you had my back for a while and I piped up with a bad comment, and realized my mistake so I deleted it, then was called a coward by you for not leaving it up, I apologized to you, but you now want to piss in my corn flakes, so Chas, please.... You lighten up. O.k. let play nice again and get back to the fun cars;-) P.S. how do I turn off this stupid email notification each time someone responds to my posts, what a distraction from my porn;-) That's my other interest... Look chas, I'm not being sensitive, I'm just being perceptive. I knew, even before you said it, why you gave the "smart" response you did, because for some reason or other you didn't admire my intentions or perspective towards what I was looking at or what direction I was heading. Fine, that's your opinion, but remember, if you don't have anything nice, (or in this case helpful) to say (because this is a board where we're supposed to be helping each other, not giving cute responses as you did), then don't say anything. Thanks to everyone else though

Pics would help. Also since it has the 911 motor, see if anything else has been upgraded with it. Any records, reciepts, history, etc? Rockers and floor look good? Interior ok? Hell if its nice enough, you could buy it, sell the 911 engine, and buy a 912 engine and put some cash back in your pocket. On the bright side, if you keep the 2.2, you can buy a 911 Manual / Workbook and it will almost all correspond to the car without having to buy 2-3 different books... hehe

Here's a great site for those who deal with renegade cars, http://www.912bbs.org/index.php?a=forum&f=16 912 Renegades Engine transplants, hot rods, turbos, efi. The irreverent lunatic fringe, not my words theirs........Perhaps I was curt, I've been in the vintage car business for nearly 40 years and like I said have had my share of bastard cars, 39 Ford with 64 Buick engine, 57 Chevy with blown 327 to name a couple. What I've learned is starting with an original car is better, buying used cars is buying someone else's problems at best...buying a major modification vehicle just compounds that situation for many. I'm relatively new to Porsche I bought my first in 1975 got married and sold it, then picked up a 69 car in 200l, the 69, 912 was a mess, took lots to get it back to stock, the 63, 356 is a one owner but had sat for 12 years and the 65, 911 is a second owner it too was a 10 year parked car. All the cars are restored and I did all the work myself save the machining stuff, valves, crank turning, etc. Anyway they deal with some cutting edge stuff, you will find additional support there if you choose to proceed with this project. Joining the 912 registry is not required to participate in the BBS either. See I'm not such a bad guy. ![]() Best of luck and sorry I hurt your feelings. Chas. 356 912 911 |

That link doesn't work on my computer, what gives;-) Back to the library computers to check in with the BBS. At least it gets me out of the house for a short time to see what's the latest over there. A 911 conversion into a 912 is a small renegade and easy to fix the small differences if they haven't been done already. Then the only difference between the two would be that strange VIN number;-) I'd really enjoy photos of both Chas's cars. A 65 911, very nice. Is this the euro version? I'm not sure if the US got their hands on the first 911's until 66, but I could be wrong. Also Charles, any photos would really help dial in what it's worth. Of course a photo can't tell you everything but could get us in the ballpark on a fair starting price. Off to check my leak down to see if I still have compression left;-) Gregg |

Original owner was stationed in Germany, the story is he bought there and had it shipped to the US. He was a Dr. and the receptionist bought it later, thus the second owner. Maybe I will post photos at some point. Chas. Last edited by C. Clark; 09-03-2007 at 08:09 PM.. |

It's been a rather difficult weekend on the car front for me, a car I had posted on eBay that I thought for sure would sell didn't, the car I started this thread about, well, we drove an hour and a half to check it out, and when we got there, the seller had someone else looking at the car at the same time. The seller was a blow-hard, and on top of that, wanted us to bid against each other. I wasn't about to fight over a car in the condition it was in, so I passed . On top of that, I tried starting the 912 I picked up a week or so ago, and it has a knock in the engine. It runs, but can't be driven. Good times... ![]() Charles Last edited by cjameson; 09-03-2007 at 10:00 PM.. |
