66 912 starter problem
 
i have a 1966 912 and today the starter selanoid went completely out on it. it doesnot even make any clicking noise. i have checked the electrical system for any voltage issues and i did not find any.

where is the best place to buy a new/reman starter selanoid

and where the hell is the damned thing???

it's on the passenger side of the car near the tranny...............that's the rear of the car.

starter deal
 
It may be worth checking out your local auto supply store. Mine had re-manufactured Bosch units for $39 bucks!! I bought 2!

That was the complete starter....not just the soleniod!!

Before you buy anything, diagnose the problem, which could be as simple as a bad ground connection (a battery terminal or the body-to-transmission ground strap) or a bad ignition switch/connection.

If the fault happens only when the car gets hot, it's a known 912 problem, usually caused by a combination of the above. There used to be a relay kit to feed full power to the solenoid; Performance Products used to sell them.

Does the ignition system have power? If so, see above. If not, look elsewhere.

There is also a yellow that connects to the Starter that can come loose or needs to be cleaned.
