Price check...912 motor and trannie

I just bought a 912 which came with a 1968 motor and trannie. I will make sure the engine runs this weekend....what is a reasonable price for an engine, and a 901 trannie?

2000 for the motor if you dont know what condition it is in but it runs
500 for the trans if you know not what it sounds like when it is running

That's way too much money. Lars should sell that motor to me for $400.

Got'er running...

And drove the car around a little yesterday. Carb linkage is a little stiff. I will look forward to rebuilding the solexs. I decided to park the car and finish my other project. I will then disassemble the car and drop the engine and trannie to evaluate the extent of the rust. At that point I will decide whether or not to keep the engine, or to swap out for a 911 engine. If someone has a worthless old 911S engine that is in the way, and needs work...and they want to put the correct fuel efficient engine back in their car...I might be convinced to consider swapping

2K best of luck..

with out it being of good sound condition you will struggle unless you find a muppet.. if so let me know I could sell them loads of stuff..

$1200-1750 is what I would have seen motors for ..that run

yeah...you are probably right

I shouldn't get my expectations too high on the prices for the engine and trannie. After all it is 42 years old...and for not having been started in at least 4 years, it was probably just luck that I got it running on first crank. I'll go through the car and figure out what the shell needs. Then I'll let the car "talk to me" and decide whether to leave it a 4 cylinder, or swap the engine. I have kept track of the PMs interested in the motor. Give me a month guys , and I will know what I am going to do...thanks for the guidance and interest
