Side mirror mounting points
 

Where can I find mounting measurements for 65-67 side mirror? I cant find such information on any site, nor manual... Can someone help me out please? :)

If you are talking about the left-side door mirror, the car came with one originally. Open the driver's-side door, and you'll see two rubber plugs where the mirror mounting nuts/bolts are accessed. Two studs (on the mirror) fit through holes in the door skin, and 10-mm nuts hold it in place. New "Durant" mirrors (with seal and inscription) are available from Stoddard Imported Cars.

If you're thinking about a right-side door mirror, you should probably forget it. I don't know if they were optional, but I tried putting one on my car ('65 912), and it was a waste of time and effort. You can't see diddly-squat out of it.

Ideally, the interior rear view mirror is used to see traffic behind you, and the left-side mirror is used to see traffic beside you. Aim the left door mirror out far enough to see cars alongside you. Most people aim the outside rear view mirror too far to the rear, not enough to the side.

Yes I was reffering to the left window :) My mounting holes are all welded, so I dont know exactly to drill :)

Can you remove the two rubber plugs on the inner part of the door and see where the original holes were? The only other way to determine the location of the holes is for someone to take off their mirror, which is a fiddly job: the nuts holding it on are awkward to remove and replace.

Inside was painted too, but my friend came in help, with his 2.7. I believe mounting holes are located in the same spot?
Either way, we have drilled the holes and maybe this weekend I'll try to mount it :)
Durant mirror is on sliders, should the sliders be all put to the furthest corners? Well maybe I'll ask in a different way... I believe when I install the mirror it will slide in it's place because of those bolts on sliders right? What distance needs to be from door to the front base nose of the mirror?

it's little known that you could get a "mirror delete" on the left side.

my very rotted origianl '67 door came off, and as a curiosity, I pulled the plugs to save them, but peeked inside. the door had never been drilled.

There is a gasket that goes on the bottom of the mirror. The holes are the template for the mirror holes. They should match up with the two hole in side the door. drill one straight out and then match to other with the template.

ok, so it looks like we have drilled holes a bit off, because mirror mounts a bit strange with no vision though it :) So I'm using my original door this time, this door has not been drilled from factory (earlier I've used my spare door).

So, where to look for factory measurements for '65 doors?

If the holes are drilled in the right place the bolts in the bottom of the mirror will slide to adjust where you can see/use it.

I have a '69 912. It does not have a passenger side mirror. I bought a Durant mirror.
I guess I am a little reluctant to drill more holes in the body... If I mount the mirror, how can i guarantee that the holes don't start rusting? I can spray them with primer, but I'm not sure that is the best treatment. Any thoughts?

Sure...just saturate a q-tip in either some clear nail polish or some touch-up paint (lacquer) if you have some and repeat a few times with light applications. Once it's dry, you can dab on a little vaseline just to be sure.
Over the years, I've seen the missuse of primer cause lots of rust problems. As it's name implies, it's meant to be topcoated and doesn't do well when exposed to the elements - in fact it tends to absorb moisture.

Not everyone sits the same distant from the wheel some are taller and some are shorter. Also not all used the Durant, most did. Some use the Talbot mirror which did not use the same holes as the Durant.

Just center punch one of the holes from the inside the door and then put the bottom gasket centered on it and mark the other hole. That will allow you too match the bolts on the bottom.

As far as the passenger side mirror with the Durant and the Talbot. I doubt that you will be able to see much from the drivers side. Maybe with the later larger size Durant. Mainly it would be just for looks. Generally for racing they would be farther up on the fender, in the old days. However, who watches their mirrors when racing especially on the right with a left hand steering car.
