Crossbeam motor mount
My engine compartment is a pig pen. While I am not ready to drop the engine and go whole hog (if the engine is out, you might as well rebuild it, right? not in the budget right now), but I digress.
I would like to pull the cross beam motor mount, while the engine remains supported from below, and remove as much of the tin for cleaning and repaint. This would be my first time placing a wrench on a Porsche, lots of VW and Norton motorcycle experience. Do you more experienced folks see any problems with this plan? I am also considering pulling the generator and stand, along with the oil reservoir and clean them up. Speaking of the oil reservoir, it looks filthy inside. Is there a preferred method for cleaning the inside of this item? Thanks in advance dgsaz 1969 912 woo hoo!! |

That is very easy and doable, although it is very easy to pull the motor and trans as a unit. I am an experienced mechanic and have never seen a car with more quirks and pitfalls. I can have my engine and trans out in 20 minutes, by myself. Also, whether you pull it or not, it is wise to disconect the shifter coupler to prevent transaxle or seal damage. Good luck Mark
