69 912 temp sensor!

OK since refitting my engine I'm having real trouble getting the oil temp sender to work correctly. At the moment the needle on the dash jumps back and forth all the time. I wired everything up as per removal but I have looked at the wiring diagram and it seems as though there should be a wire that goes to the temp sensor itself. Trouble is I can't see anywhere to connect it and the green and black wire that connects to the back of the temp dial on the dash is connected to the terminal 15 on the coil? I have disconnected it from the coil and the needle on the dash has now stopped flicking back and forth instead it now sits at about half way, even on idle! Can anyone help me out here as I really want to go and drive my car today (its so sunny outside) but don't want to risk going on a drive with no temp sensor. Ideally I could do with a pic or confirmation that this wire should connect to the sensor and also how it should connect.

Many thanks

Tim

Yep! There is a wire that goes to the oil temp sensor. It is the green and black wire that you had connected to the coil. I hope you didn't do any damage to the gauge by having it connected to the coil. If after you have connected the green/black wire to the sensor and with the key off. It still is half way. Then you will need a new gauge.

Thanks Jaems,

The problem I have is that there doesn't seem to be anywhere on the temp sensor to connect to (I'll try and get a picture up so you can see what I mean) I've tried touching the green/black wire to the end of the sensor but this doesn't move the needle from half way. With the key off the needle drops back to cold but as soon as I turn on the ignition it jumps to half way?

I've attached a pic to show what I mean.

I must be missing something really obvious here but I cannot see where the wire should go?

The type shown is for a 911. They have a connector that slides over the knob on the end. You will want to get one for the 912. There is also two types for the 912. One type will have the spade connector and the other will use the eye type. You probably have the spade connector on the green/black wire. If it was connected to the coil. Mine uses the eye type connector.

That makes sense now. So I need to track down the end cap for a 912 sensor. Also yep mine has got the spade connector on the end of the wire. No wonder I couldn't work it out, it does help if all the necessary parts are present! Thanks for the help Jaems, its much appreciated.
