rebuilding 912 engine
So I'm getting the parts together for a rebuild on a 69 912 and need some input from others who have been through this.
I have a good block and crank(mag and checked, std std) but I have been confused by the next step of purchasing pistons and cylinders. Big bore verses std kit, how much of of a difference is there going to be by increasing displacement by this option? Should I consider a warm cam? When I go forward are there any other modifications that I should consider that would make noticable HP gains. So the next question is Quality, I have seen Big bore on Samba and Ebay for various prices. NLA offers a set decent price. Any comments on vender vs quality? I'm not looking to spend big money but I just want a streetable engine with maybe a little punch, Thanks for any advise |
I have just installed Brad's set and they are very good for the price. Warm cams are good but a little jerky for daily driver use. If its a weekender then go for it. Don't forget to re-jet the carb's to match the big bore.
Make sure you check the diff carrier - it seems to struggle with the 100hp and often fails (as I have just found out!) |
Thanks Rols, are you running a mild cam with Solex.
Do you think your car is running about 100 hp? Any other mods? Which set of big bore the cast or forged? thanks |
