The muffler is a custom dual tip 356 unit.

A couple of minor fitment issues with that prototype needed to be resolved but the essential layout is suitable and the basic appearance remains the same. Getting one header to fit both a 912 and a 356 without compromising performance is somewhat of a challenge.
The video was taken with a digital still camera so the sound isn't high quality. It was quite pleasant sounding up close and personal, and with the right side outlet blocked off it was very quiet.
The smoke coming from the tailpipe was the tube bending mandrel grease burning off from inside the pipes. The engine in the 912 is a fresh H. Pellow Special assembled just a few years ago. It was originally built for a 356 installation but the owner decided it should go in a currently operable car instead of storing it any longer. We carefully replaced the third piece with the one off the engine that came out of the car.
