A standard '67 912 gearbox would be A,F,M,S,X. Many people consider that "close" ratio because it's shorter than most every stock box that followed after it from 1969 and on. But if we want to be technical about it there were special boxes that were closer and shorter. It's a good box for a 912 as long as you don't spend a bunch of time on the highway. If you do, you might want to consider getting a Z or Za 5th gear and putting it in there for highway cruising.
Here's a thread with a pretty complete list of early gearboxes by type: 901/13 gear question And if you just happen to have a 902-05 know that it is also A,F,M,S,X even though it's not listed. That's a factory replacement box.

+1 .... - especially on a 911s engine. 120km/h @ 4000rpm in stock fashion. 1st gear very close...

My 66 912's speedo and tach has been calibrated for the tires (185/65/15) and and transaxel. I get 120km/h at 3800. I don't know what the 5th gear is now. We rebuilt the transaxel before I had everything calibrated. I also have about a 1000 rpm drop between shifts. Less if I speed shift.
