Go Forward Or Go Back?
 

I started out with the intentions of simply cleaning up the engine compartment. The PO left it an oily mess. I built a stand to support the engine and pulled the rear cross bar/motor mount and all of the sheet metal and dirty parts that would come off from that position.

As I got further into the mess it became obvious that the right thing to do was remove the engine completely and go from there.

Here's the question. With the engine in it's current location. (Which is still bolted to the transmission, sitting on a stand, the body has raised itself on the shocks after the cross bar/ motor mounts were removed.) Do I need to reinstall the cross bar and rear motor mounts in order to jack up the car to remove the engine?

This will be my first Porsche engine pull. Nothing like a VW. Thanks

what is supporting the motor now?
typically, you'd jack it way up and use an atv jack to lower it(or any jack if you have a few helping hands to balance the motor.)
the rear valance has to come off for clearance unless your using a lift.

The engine is supported by a "cradle" that keeps it at the same elevation and position it would be in if it was attached to the cross bar motor mount.

i suppose it's possible, but i think it would be easier to put the bar back on.
