86mm Pistons and Cylinders: What's the point?
I have a few direct questions about the 86mm Pistons and cylinder kits out there. supposedly they bore it out to 1750cc.
-Is it true that they are simply bolt on with no modification required? -Supposing I bolt a set on to my 912, would I find a noticeable increase in power? torque? -Does anyone here have specs of a motor with this mod? -Would I need a more aggressive cam to fully utilize the higher displacement? -Bigger carbs? -is the 1750cc displacement as reliable as the normal 1600cc? I hope to get all these questions cleared up! Thanks a lot! ![]()

-Is it true that they are simply bolt on with no modification required? Yes. 356's and VW have been doing this since the '60's -Supposing I bolt a set on to my 912, would I find a noticeable increase in power? torque? Noticeable? Perhaps, depending on your overall setup. -Does anyone here have specs of a motor with this mod? Search around. -Would I need a more aggressive cam to fully utilize the higher displacement? This is often done, yes but not necessary. -Bigger carbs? Generally just re-jetting -is the 1750cc displacement as reliable as the normal 1600cc? For many, many years and miles. Don't use crap parts and short cut the total rebuild process.
