General progress on my new 912e. Tire & Wheel size (again).
Hi again everyone. I've been spending a lot of time over on the 912bbs thanks to the suggestions of a few of you. Thanks, there are indeed a lot of very knowledgeable people over there.
I know this subject has been touched on repeatedly, but unfortunately the answers are often less than clear: I'm trying to figure out if a set of Euromiester 16x7 wheels will fit this car unmodified? I can find 16x6 Fuchs (which I've been told do fit properly with no issues assuming you use the right tire size), but realistically, this car just isn't currently worth that kind of investment. Unfortunately Euromiester doesn't appear to make 16x6 wheels. I'm not thinking of going huge, just 205x55x16 like many people use on their 912s. AFAIK, if the offset is correct, shouldn't the 16x7s fit just as well when using an equivalent tire size? Thanks for any input. OH, I was also finally able to obtain specs for the stock tire-size (at least for the 14" wheels): They would have been the equivalent of 185/80/14s (actually closer to 185/82/14). Finding any tires with this kind of ratio today is difficult. But you can obtain almost exactly the same rolling-diameter a few other ways. The closest would be 205x60x16, but there are plenty of other combinations which get you within about 5% of the stock rolling diameter. Keep in mind that my current goal is to get the car into "daily-driveable" shape while spending as little as possible. Then I can take my time (a year or two or three) having fun in the car while deciding if it is a keeper or if I'll be selling her again and investing elsewhere. You should be able to get 4 nice 16x6 Fuchs for $500. They are very common, and thats what fake 15x6's go for. You get forged wheels much stronger and lighter than the fakes...
Just my .02. Either that or run 15x6 ATS cookie cutters with 195/65s for period correct low budget.

The PO put 185/60/14s on this thing (in the front), and 205/60/14s on the back. They don't look very good and the speedometer is so far off as to be nearly useless (shows 90 when I'm going about 75). |
