New Exhaust (sort of)

The rear number plate panel on my car is abit beaten up after various US and UK plates and at some point has had a meeting with something solid and concrete. So Before replaceing it I decided to give this ago. I went down to my local exhaust maker and picked up some offcuts of stainless and some cheapo trim pieces. Afew choice cuts later I'm left with this, I may try getting some slightly longer pieces but I think it looks pretty good, and from what can work out there seems no problems with back pressure etc. I may need that 1720 rebuild though to justify the look

Thanks
Chris

That's a really clean looking modification - & probably where the exhaust should have been in the first place on these cars (IIRC the 911 prototype had a wider version of this and the 911 sport exhaust had a similar exit.)
How does it sound vs. the original pipe?

How does it sound vs. the original pipe?

It sounds throatier, and maybe a touch louder. Although I'm certain there are no performance advantages, it is alot lighter than the stock setup.

Thanks
Chris

Chris, do you have any sound clips of this exhaust mod? What did you use to determine the spacing? I looks good.

The spacing is simply determined by the outlets on the original muffler. I did not weld or cut the muffler, just got some stainless pipe the same internal diameter as the external diameter on the muffler and then put a clamp around. Fairly straight forward

...here is a short video clip, alittle bit cold but you get the idea

Thanks
Chris

Sounds nice. I realized after I made the post the other day that you had probably used the factory spacing. duh. Do the clamps hold tight or do they tend to work themselves loose?

Clamps hold fine, these are the type I used...

I also used some exhaust gum/paste to ensure a tight fit

Thanks
Chris
