Any Ideas to Fix my Problem

I just got my valves adjusted and carbs tuned and the 66 912 started to run better.

Today, I stopped by my mechanic to tell him that the car is doing a bit of back-firing and popping.

The carbs were adjusted so we first checked all the spark plug boots. The back left spark plug boot came right off so wer just thought it was loose. Ended up, the boot is missing the clip to attach it to the spark plug.

Then we notice that the spark plug is really lose. My other mechanic told me this and said it would be fine for now and if I wanted to fix it, we would have to pull the engine and re-thread the entry point for the spark plug.

Now the car is stumbling, back-firing and will not idle (it drives fine when cruising).

My question is: With the limited access I have to that spark plug, what is a temporary fix for this problem? Is there something I can put around the spark plug to make it thread in?

I know I need to do it right and pull the engine but time and funds do not allow that right now.

Just looking from some ideas from you knowledgeable folk.

Thank you in advance.

If your other mechanic said that a loose plug is "fine for now" do not go back to him.
No temporary fix for this.
The only cure for this will require an engine drop.
I wouldn't drive it as it is.

I agree regarding the mechanic's comment---don't go back there. as far as a fix, log on to the 912bbs 912 Board and search " plug thread repair"
