Thumbs up

As long as it's not rusted out anywhere like floorpans or part of the tub and it has a clean title then I would probably buy it.

Also check for rust under the windshield, in the rear seats and package shelf, along the seams in the engine compartment, the front suspension pan, and the torsion bar area. Expect the heater boxes to be junk. I would try to take the car on an extended drive - it'll point you to any deficiencies in the car's performance. Try to do a compression check of the engine yourself - these engines are pretty pricey to repair/rebuild.

I just picked up a '67 912 for $2000. It has 180,000 miles with 20k on a rebuild. It is in decent shape and didn't take too much to get it from a two cylinder to a four cylinder.

Part of the reason I got it was because of the similarities (engine wise) to my 70 vw bus. 912's are pretty simple and parts seem fairly easy to find. I think it sounds like a good deal (provided it's not rusted out underneath).
