Removing 26 years of dirt and grease...
As per my previous post I am in the process of reviving a '66 912 after sitting in storage for over 26 years. Going to start this weekend.
I am looking for cleaning product ideas for the interior, exterior and engine as well as any tricks of the trade. -also anything I need to stay away from. Thanks, Mike ![]() ![]() ![]()

We use Var-sol on the old Airplanes we have. (Mineral spirits) with a vacuum type siphon with air compressor. (This is for the engine)

Do I see a sunroof in there?
Nice looking steering wheel! Get the tires pumped up and push it outside and give it a wash then some wax and you will feel the excitement. Looks like a good basis for a fun car.

Thanks Larry!
...yes that is a sunroof hidden under all of the dirt. The previous owner stated it was in working condition when put away -but we will see... I will take some pics after the wash & wax. Thinking of using Meguiars wax and interior cleaner.

Beautiful cars Larry. That project looks a lot more realistic than mine! I see you have a sunroof as well. Do you have any idea how to manually open it?

Have you tried hooking up a battery in the car to see what you get to turn on? Maybe it will work.
I got a small crank hndle with mine that looks like a slot screw driver on one end. This slips into the motor I think and turns the gear mech. I could be wrong about that but if anyone knows more please chime in. You have a zippper in the headliner which will give access to the motor and gear drive.

Thanks I will give it a look tonight. I will also check the tool kit for the tool you describe -however I don't recall seeing anything like that.
Anyone selling an extra sunroof tool?

Be sure to spray everything, and I mean everything, before trying to works the mechanical stuff. It will be frozen and could break. Lube it up good and let it sit for a few days. What is the condition of the motor? If you attempt to start it you should get some good penetrating lube and spray it in the cylinders, valves and linkage. Don't try to start it w/out turning it over by hand. Don't use WD40, it contains water and is not good.
