Question Spring in oil filter canister

Should there be a spring between the inside of lid of the oil filter canister and the replaceable filter cartridge, centred around the lid hold down bolt? Mine does not have one and parts drawings do not seem to show one, yet I have seen pictures of lids which apparently do.

Also, in trying to understand the oil flow path in the canister, is the only outlet route via the tiny (less than 1 mm) hole in the side of the central tube that the lid bolt screws in to?

Thanks.

Yes - there is supposed to be a spring to hold the filter in place and keep it still. Changed oil/filter the other day and for a sec I thought to myself: "Now THAT little spring would be hard to find if I lost it!" Any spring would probably do since the task of securing the filter is pretty straightforward.

Dont know about the flow path.
