What distributor do you have? 009 is for VW and doesn't have enough advance. Can cause this behavior.

bluehawaii 09-04-2010 11:21 PM

yes indeed it is an 009 and want to change it but a little scared as I have not done that before.

FEAR=False Expectations Appear Real
Removing the distributor is relatively easy.
You've already done an engine R&R so it should be a piece of cake compared to that.
Do you have an Orange Book (manual)?

If you set the distributor to #1 the rotor is pointing at the notch and the pulley is at TDC and then remove it. Then set the new distributor rotor to the notch so that it will match the old one. Then you can install it with the assurance that it will be matched to #1. You will have to set the timing again with the new distributor installed.

I didn't have any luck with the 009, ran an 050 for a while then put in my 031 which was the best.

I need to get another orange book...loaned it out and of course never returned...,where is best place to get a new distributor?

Will (626) 445-0108 at Classic and Speed Parts. He sells the RSR0012 for John Benton.

I am set to get one ,,,rsr0012,,, as soon as I get a little extra money. I did adjust my linkage and that helped....one was advancing before the other.. I hope to see a noticeable difference when I upgrade that turd 009 .

wow I got my orange book back....
