Clutch Plate Stuck
After getting the '66 912 running great after sitting for 26yrs I was ready to take it fir the first run.
Depressed the clutch and could not get it into any gear. Clutch cable checked and is excellent. A technician has told me the clutch plate is stuck do to sitting for so long and is likely rusted . Before removing the engine transmission I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.... anyone????????![]() Mike

Mike, what happens if you put it in gear and place the handbrake depress clutch then start.
How about a little tug down the drive way in gear but engine off? We are having our drive Sunday and ending in Cambridge at the Beaver and Bulldog or Angels on Franklin. If you can't make the drive how bout meeting us for lunch. around noon. Larry

Good advice Larry. I haven't thought about the handbrake but will give it a try and if that doesn't work i will pull it down the driveway.
I would love to join you guys for the drive/lunch but we have company coming over. Hopefully next time although we are getting closer to the end of the season. Mike

This happens to my clutch occasionally - for example when I've been driving through rain or humid conditions and let the car rest for a week in the garage. I usually put the car in gear (1st or reverse depending on how I parked
) and crank the starter one or two revolutions to break the clutch free, as Larry suggested. Works every time as it isn't rusted shut from standing for a week or two. (once, after winter, I had to drive the car down the road on the starter - the jerking of the transmission put strain on the plate both fwd and bckwrds and freed the clutch quite quickly). Perhaps you have to put a bit more force into it as your car has been standing for a while - but with a little common sense and no excessive violence - you probably wont break anything. Good luck. Also check your pedal cluster...my pedal cluster was so rusty that the pedal stayed down...had to rebuild cluster...solved problem.
