VW engine in 912
I've seen a couple of messages about putting a Type I VW into a 912 to save cost. How close is are the engines? I could get a Type I longblock, but not sure if the carbs, oil cooler, shrouds, fan, etc will work?

It is very possible, very cost effective, the hp is almost endless, and the integrity of the Porsche is not compromised in case you ever want to return it to original specs. I have just completed my swap and the original engine is sitting in my living room. Slowly but surely the 912 engine will be rebuilt, meanwhile I get to cruise town in the coupe with the VW powerplant. I would also highly suggest checking out Clay's sites on the subject.
Regards, George. |
