So I am getting ready to adjust valves...how do you tell which valve is exhaust or intake?

Pretty sure it's Intakes on the inside and exhaust on the out side.

That's correct. Set the lash at .004 on the intakes and 006 on the exhaust with COLD ENGINE. Be careful to follow the directions in the orange book or what your use. At TDC you should be able to rotate the push rod with your fingers. Be sure to inspect the little cup ends other end of the on the rockers as they sometimes break. Be careful not to round the lock nuts. Adjust the valve lash and tighten locknuts while holding the adjuster with screwdriver. It's a little tricky to get just right - almost takes 3 hands. Double check after you tighten to be sure didn't change. Replace valve cover gaskets if necessary. Wipe up excess oil from heat echangers and go to next step of tune up.

In the future look to see where the exhaust is leaving the head via the exhaust manifold.. That would be where the exhaust valve is located.

valve
If you cannot tell which valve is the intake and which is the exhaust just by looking at the engine or reading, take it to someone to get the valves adjusted
