912 trans swap questions. HELP!
Hello, I have a 1969 912, with a 4 speed trans. Will a 1974 914 5-speed bolt right in?? Any help would be great! Thanks!
|
nope. The gear set is interchangeable, but not the whole tranny. You need to find a 902/1 (or something close) Whats wrong with the 4 speed? The final ratio is the same on ether 4 or 5. It's just getting there is a bit different. LOL

That's what I was afraid of! The 4 is fine but that 1-2 shift is a killer! Just want to shorten everything up. Anybody know of a 5 speed for sale????
|
my 5 speed has long throws too, You could but a short throw shifter in it, but I heard that they may screw up the synchronizes. I just shift slow LOL
|
I don't think he meant actual lever travel, but gear ratio from 1-2. Looking for something that he'll lose fewer rpm between shifts.

if you climb serious hills
a 5 speed helps a lot. With a 4 speed, you do have to wind it up in first.
Here's a transmission table: 912 Registry | Transmission Type Table |
I have a rebuilt 1969 5 speed trans for sale $750obo
