Anyone have experience with ordering parts from porschepartscounter.com? I have sent a few questions before ordering an exhaust valve compressor tool..... with no response, but hoping it's just the holidays. I'll appreciate any feedback on this vendor.....or a recommended source for 912 parts. Thanks!

valve spring tool?
I've not dealt with that group but if you are talking about compressing the valve springs, I bought a slick tool made by Schley products for a turbo Mitsubishi I owned years ago (allowed me to change valve springs without taking the head off the car)..It worked great on my 912 heads on a work bench...It was about $90.00 back then...If you are near NW Ohio you may borrow it..

Thanks for the response..... Did you have any troubles with the exhaust valves? Not near Ohio, in Oregon. Very wet, but not as cold as you guys.

Exhaust valves
No, no trouble other than having to be a little creative on how to use the fulcrum/rod set up. I had a co-worker hold the head on a flat surface and compressed the spring pretty easily. I had a small magnet on a stick that I grabbed the valve keepers with in one hand while compressing the spring with the other hand/lever...Reverse operation to re-install. I just lapped the valves by hand and had ground the soot/build up off the seats and backs of the valves on a bench grinder equipt with a wire wheel...Cheap/easy and my car runs very strong.
I mounted the head in a bench vise (use timber to protect cooling fins) and dropped the valves right out....I can take pictures of the tool set up on a vw head I have if you want more detail...T3Maxwell@bex.net Toby |

spring replacement in car
Remember compressed air has to be pumped into the cylinders to hold the valves shut...Sounds like you'd have lower effort if you just pulled the heads.
