I have just bought an Ignitor 1844 for my Bosch 022 distributor. I have searched the posts and apparently a number of subscribers have gone this route.
My question is how do you connect the Ignitor to the ignition coil, once it is installed on the distributor base plate inside the distributor? It has two wires. The black has to go to the -ve side of coil and the red to the +ve. I can connect the black by using to the original bolt inside the distributor that secured the points. This is connected on the outside of the distributor back to the -ve side of the coil. How do I connect the red wire? I need a path through the distributor body. The instructions (which are not specific to the 022) refer to removing (and replacing) a grommet. My 022 does not appear to have any such grommet. The only holes through the body are for various attaching bolts. I have sent a query to Petronix but would like advice from someone who has actually fitted one to their 912. Thanks. |

Rilchard:
When you completely remove the points and all of the connectors (the parts under the yellow line below) and isolators that take that wire through the distributor body, aren't you left with the pass-through hole? ![]() |

Thanks for that, and for the excellent photo.
Yes, I do have the hole that you describe. It is the hole that the bolt passes through that I mentioned would give the black wire a connection back to the coil . However, it is not of sufficient diameter to take the two Ignitor wires (see my much poorer photo which shows the hole and one wire through it). But as it is apparently the only available hole I guess I will use some lighter gauge hookup wire to squeeze through. Thanks for the help. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. ![]() |

Sorry - ignore last post
On probing around a little more I found that the bolt hole still had a thin insulating sleeve in it. Once I clear everything out the two standard wires fit through.
Thanks again for your help. |
