Maybe the guage itself?
 

I have pulled the sensor, cleaned the wires and verified that the bezel slides up and down the shaft freely but still get no reading on the fuel Gauge. Could it be the Gage and how would I check it? Any other thing I should check first? I cleaned up the grounds behind the fuse box also.

how to access the gauge? I know it comes out through the front of the dash by removing the two nuts on the back of the gauge but getting to the back of the gauge must be a bitc_.

I guess it depends on how big your hands are.

You must remove the bigger oil temp gauge first. Then it is easier put your hand through that hole to reach the fuel gauge. You would remove the speedometer to reach the clock. The temp gauge and speedometer are easier to remove from behind than the two smaller fuel gauge and clock.

Jaems: That is how I was thinking of trying. There is not enough space to access the fuel gauge from the back. You would need the hands of a monkey to do it that way. Now if I can keep all the wires and lights straight on the oil temp gauge it might work that way. Time consuming but my labor rate is low.

Jaems: I decided to give the sensor one last look before going into the gauge. I pulled it for the 3rd time and throughly cleaned the shaft and contacts, reinstalled and turned on the key but no reading on the gauge:confused: I believe I am correct in assuming the gauge should read when the key is turned on?

fuel gauge woes
 

Jaems, can't he ground the wiring to the fuel gauge? If he did that wouldn't the gauge sweep full range (peg) if the wiring is good and the gauge is good?...
I was able to test my oil pressure gauge that way but it is a single wire sensor.
