Which sender?

Hi!
I would like to install a green faced VDO oil temp/pressure guage I have found in my
'67 912. Its graduated in F'/PSI 140-280 degrees and 0-140 psi. I assume its an old 911 part.I'd post a pic if I could, but have camera issues. Does anyone know the details as to which senders to use. I realize I'll need an additional wire. Thanks! Keith khbrooks22@lycos.com or 520-404-2875

All of the wires are there. They original wiring harness was used for both 911 and 912's. You might look at a 911 wiring diagram for 67. It would help you with the wire colors. The sender for the oil temp is the same as the one in the 912. The oil pressure requires you to get one for a gauge. The idiot light sender will not work. If you get a two post one it will have both the gauge and the idiot. you can use the ebrake light as the idiot light

Here is the combo temp/pressure in a earlier Euro car.

Thanks Jaems,
Do you know the wire color/location of the (unused in 912s) oil pressure guage wire? Is it doubled over and taped off somewhere? Keith

I think the pressure is Green/red and the temp is green/black. If you do not use the idiot light. Then the wire for the idiot light can be used for the pressure gauge. There was not a idiot light and pressure gauge combo until after the 912 series was over. Since you do not have a oil tank like the 911 you can use that wire which is green/white. If you want to have both. It is in the back near the passenger side of the car.

Did you find out what sender you need?

I just got a '67 with the 911 gauge in there.

Also, the temp gauge is just pegging when the car is on. I remember from when I had my 356, someone knew exactly what that meant, and it was an easy fix. But, I can't remember what it was.

It is either a bad wire or sender, usually the sender. If the sender is the original 912 idiot light sender. Then you need to replace it with a one that reads pressure. Mine uses a regular 911 pressure sender. However, I have metric type gauge that use atmospheric for pressure. Mine reads about 5 atmospherics which is about 70 lbs American.

A peg gauge usually means that it is grounded.

Hi Jay,

The early 911 temperature gauge will use you 912 temp. sender but the 911 oil pressure gauge uses a different VDO sender; you do use the same wire. In your 912, the oil pressure maxes out at 60 psi or so because of the oil pressure relieve valves. It's over 100 psi in the 911, which is why that gauge runs to 140 psi.

Send your gauge to either Palo Alto Speedometer or Hollywood Speedometer for conversion. They will change the art work in you 911 gauge and calibrate it to your sender. You can choose pressure in psi or bar/atmospheres (1 bar = 14.7 psi gauge = 1 atmosphere)

All the wire connections that you need are there on the 911 combination gauge. When the time comes, simply change them one at a time.

Great update!
