Dashboard coverlays
Has anyone ever used an aftermarket dash top?.. I have a cheesy looking dashmat (fabric) one now that looks like crap but I saw one on Ebay that is a molded unit that looks just like oem but lays over top of my cracked up dash....
Are they any good? Thanks, Toby |

These other ones look also cheesy. Some folks have recovered the dash themselves. Over on 912 BBS someone has posted, a while back, pictures of the one that he did.

Recovered '68 Dash
I did the dash in my '68 coupe with Endurasoft (dash had a major crack at the transition and spider cracking on top over the gauges). As an experiment, the base layer was paint-on vinyl truck bed liner: bid mistake! I have two other '68 dashes to cover, hopefully, with better results.
After stripping old vinyl/applying bed liner ![]() Finished dash (notice separation of covering at transition): ![]() Here's a link to the 912bbs that gives more info: 912 Board - Viewing Topic: How to remove the dash cover? |

Dash coverlay
Thanks Peter...Is the last photo with the finished product one of the dash coverlays that I'm referring to? If so it looks good.

The last photo is the finished dash with both dash pieces ('68 model year only) and knee pad recovered in Endurasoft (not a coverlay but a vinyl upholstery product) that was attached using 3M 77 spray adhesive. The dash plates are made from self-adhesive backed carbon fiber sheet from DragonPlate. The problem with my method is that the bed liner is lifting from the dash so the look of the dash covering is getting progressively worse.
