Fuchs- Cookies or leave it alone?
My '67 912 just showed signs of life!
It's 30 years of California sun has it faded to a tomato red with thin patches of primer in spots.. I'm dreaming of spring and reading E-bay looking for some Fuchs- Cookies or trying to leave it stock. If I had walked up to my 912 in 1967 the chrome wheels would have been groovy! *But.. as time passed, I'm pretty sure I would have picked up a set of Cookies or Fuchs.. Being low buck, swap meet bone yard scrounger Old Fuchs seem to go for $100 ea and that seems high for a used wheel.. Any opinions? |
I would give Parts Heaven a call and see what they quote you on Fuchs price.
www.partsheaven.com I am finding these guys about as straight up as they come. Fuchs aren't cheap I know that much. Craig |
Look for a set of 14" fuchs, there's nothing wrong with them and nobody wants them so they aren't worth that much. Everyone wants the 15s. I just bought a whole set in great condition for my 912 for $350.

I was at Parts Heaven the other day asking about engines for my motor-less 1967 912, and I saw several Fuchs there. The manager quoted me a price of $200 for the real McCoy and $100 for the replicas (black spokes). By the way does any one know how to tell the difference between real Fuchs and replicas? In my 912 I have Fuchs which say inside "AEW, Max weight 1580 lbs., 15X6" and then a little number stamped somewhere.

Real Fuchs have a Porsche part # such as 901.361.012.06 for a deep 6x15. There is also a Fox symbol (Fuchs is German for Fox).
Forged wheels, very light and strong. Replicas will not have this part #. It's possible that "AEW" stands for "American Eagle Wheel". Replicas are cast not forged. Be aware that opting for a 14" wheel may limit your tire choices. The choices for 15" wheels are dwindling as the tire manufacturer's concentrate on 16", 17" 18 "..... Doc, I'm in your area. I received your email. Will contact you sometime... or you, me. |
