oil consumption
Hi everyone. I hope we are all getting a chance to drive our cars with the good weather. I am saving my money for an engine rebuild because the last one on my car was 70,000 miles ago. The question I have is how much oil does your car drink? My car gets the nice small blue cloud when I start it up and have no leaks at all, but it likes to consume oil, about 1/2 a quart every 175-200 miles. I only notice smake slightly when my car is going up a pretty good hill. I know a rebuild will give me what I really need but was curious how much oil other 912's are using. Thank goodness oils cheap! Mines a 69. Thanks and happy driving.

My 69 uses about 1 quart every 1500 miles unless if I run it at a normal pace. However if it's spirited driving that changes to about 1 quart every 1000 miles.
By the way what weight of oil are you using? I use 20w50 Valvoline.

Hey Mark,
Love driving the Targa on a day like today. For those of you that aren't living in Southern California, it was about 85 yesterday and 80 today out on Pacific Coast Highway. I'll stop rubbing it in now. As for oil consumption, I use about a quart every 1000 miles of comuting and about 500-750 miles if I run the car hard. It leaks a little, but has good even compression. It doesn't smoke that I can ever detect. See ya at the March So Cal 912 meeting! Jeff
