Drag racing the 912 at Cal. Speedway

Hi Guys,
Took the car out just to see what it could do in the 1/4 mile. I actually flogged the 240 Z even though the 912 was chattering hard off the line. I wish I had solid mounts just for the day.
16.8 et with terrible 2.3 60ft time. lol

How cool...

John, how high did you launch the car?

The launch was violent. I did a 5000 rpm clutch dump and fried the tires. I shifted at 7000 and got a solid second gear bark! I crossed the line at 80.27 mph in third gear.
Too much fun.....

I looked at those times and I thought, Mein12 had something fishy back there. So I searched for my old topic "Hpw about your 912" and was enlighten. Now the question arises, what all did you do to the Solexes? I saw that you upped to 34.5mm. The dellotos are 34mm and they have an awesome top end, but a weaker lower end. How are the solexes? Was there a decent performance increase? (ie weber 28mm to 32mm) How much did it cost to upgrade? When I rebuild my motor I'm going to do a few things to it, and when I rebuild the carbs, it would be a perfect time to upgrade. Thanks

Hi Josh,

The Solex has worked best for me so far. I have used Weber's, Dellorto's, and Solex's. I do like the Weber's but they are not as smooth as the Solex across the range of operation.
The cost is minimal for jets since the solex uses Mikuni jets. I chose 34.5mm venturies for this motor based on the cam and compression. My motor pulls to 7000 rpm. I ran 36mm on my race motor, it pulled to 8000 rpm. I have seen some guys go up to 38mm, but I am not sure why. They may have been trying to use the big Datsun valve set-up.
The cost for venturies is around 160.00 a set if you go to Skirmants or Competition. I can make your old set work for half that if you send them to me. I made a cutting tool to get the top radius correct. Let me know what you have in mind for the next motor.
Give me a call...JMB
