912 West Coast Rendevous!

Scoot Mclean writes:

How about the weekend around the 4 of July? or weekend after? Early August?

How about a West Coast 912 owner rendevous? I'd be up for helping put together an event. 2 days. Saturday meet up. Either a rally or a drive followed by a mellow car show/ parking lot thing. (Possiblly arrange hoses, buckets and soap for a group 912 car wash and fender fondleling.) Then an organized dinner at a nice joint. We could arrange a hotel and get a good rate. Sunday could include a brunch and a mid day send off.

Location? Let's hear from those interested in coming. I know that we have a great group up in the SF Bay Area and a good size group in So Cal. There are also owners that are chimming in fro AZ, NM and NV that might be interested.

Rick Becker could post the date on 912Registry.org and we could run with it.

I won't do it all unless I have to.

Any thoughts and ideas are encouraged!

Jeff,

I kind of formed up the Bay 912 group up here in the San Jose area, we are about 15 in number and growing. I guess I am the "entertainment" commitee and have monthly groups things planned through June.

We have tossed around the idea of a group trip to Strasse in Atascadero (sp?). If we could find soemthing mid way between No. Cal and So. Cal, say SLO, I am sure several of us would be up for that.

I think August might be a better time as the 4th of July is out for me as Hollister hosts a Harley rally on the 4th and we get 50-60,000 bikers in here for 3 days of motorcyles and fun.

I iwll post a link to this message on our BBS and poll our group for interest.

Strasse? That's like 15 minutes away! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/boldblue.gif

How about the Santa Ynez Valley, north of Santa Barbara. About 260 miles from San Diego, 280 away from SF and Saramento. 500 from Phoenix. Close to the cool California coast, but in a great area to drive the cars. Keep the Ideas coming!

Jeff Trask 03-01-2002 07:45 PM

Scott, be careful what you wish for...

In a matter on a few hours, we have a 912 West Coast Renevous well on it's way to being inked! With help from Craig up in Northern California, we will have all the details up and in place by March 15th. At this point, all I can tell you is that the date will be August 2-4, 2002. Mark it in your calenders. More info is coming. Be there!

ScotMcLean 03-01-2002 08:23 PM

Wow - I'm off for a bit and look what happens. August 2-4 is great. Make it a weekend. Hotel sound great but make sure it has a pool! We can bring other 912 stuff as well. I have a 912 mechanics service training manual I'm sure you'd get a kick out of, or the original paperwork, etc - bit of history.

The only problem, which isn't really one, is you may have a standard issue Ford Windstar parked near your 912s - depends on timing. I can bring up the rear of the line with a sign on the side of the van "912 Support Team." We may be together as a family of 5 then on summer vacation, but you'll be impressed with my twin 4 year olds as they notice details of cars that are just like daddy's. Scott, 69 & 76 912/E

Just moving it up to the top for more input.

Give it to us. We are close to going public with the details. We need your input. Let us know what you want. We have a great rate on a hotel in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. Date is set: August 2-4, 2002. A great T-shirt! Saturday night BBQ or banquet. If you want something special, let us know. All the details will be finalized by next week.

By the way. there are more than 400 912s registered in PCA Zones 6-8. We know there are more, so let your 912 bros know what's up.

West coast 912 rally

Gee, I wonder if my 912 would make it from Baltimore.

craign 03-03-2002 08:03 PM

Go ahead give it a try......we might have a bonus prize for the person who drives the furthest to attend.

Craig

I'm so there. Any prize for the youngest 912 owner?

On a slightly related note, my motor is progressively getting worse. Maybe by Rendezvous time, I'll have a type 4.

Is that the official name? The 912 Rendezvous?

JMB, I expect you there!

craign 03-04-2002 06:42 AM

"officially" it is being called

Porsche 912 West Coast Rendezvous

I will be driving down Friday night if you want to caravan with me. I don't know how many others from the Bay 912 group will be going on Friday but hopefully a few.

I know several are going but just don't know what day they will drive down yet.

Craig

josh912 03-04-2002 09:38 AM

Well I guess I got to get the car repainted by August!

ScotMcLean 03-04-2002 01:20 PM

It'll be fun! When can we expect the particulars, where to make reservations, etc. and get it on the calendar in permanent ink :) ?

Scott, 69 & 76 912/E

craign 03-04-2002 01:26 PM

No later than the 15th of this Month everything will be finalized and a website location set up to get hotel info and download a registration form.

This is going to be fun, All zone 6, 7 & 8 regional PCA's will be posting information on their sites as will Pelican, 912 registry etc etc etc.

Now..... what happens if 100+ 912's show up?? Gulp!

mein12 03-04-2002 06:39 PM

Hey! Solvang Country,

Plenty of good places there to hang out. The Benton's will be there. Maybe We can bring two 912's. Hmmm

Efrain..A 914 motor? I have lots of good racing parts over here if you want to stay true to the 12.

Later, JMB....

Efrain68912 03-04-2002 07:26 PM

I choose to look at it this way - I am simply bridging the lineage between the 912 and the 912E. But I'm still wavering a bit. If my motor checks out fine I might just concentrate on the suspension.

Any planned activities yet for the Rendezvous? I would love to have an informal rally over some great roads - nothing timed, of course. An informal car show is obligatory. Bring lots of film!

craign 03-06-2002 01:36 PM

Folks.......you DO NOT want to miss this event. You will be very pleased with what has been put together.

Jeff Trask has done all the leg work and I have done the admin type stuff but I am amazed at what we have put together in such short order!

Hopefully the info will be up on the web in a day or so!

Keep watching for the formal announcement as it will appear here first!

Craig
